Organising Committee


Glen Snedden is the Research Group Leader for Air Power applications with the CSIR's Aeronautical Systems Competency. He completed his PhD at Durham University in the UK specialising in turbomachinery aerodynamics and his undergraduate and MSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the then University of Natal, specialising in turbine heat transfer. In his 20 year career at the CSIR he has worked with a variety of international engine manufacturers and participated in two EU FP research projects. He is the National Representative to the International Society for Air Breathing Engines, technical advisor to the dti's Aerospace Industry Support Initiative and is an extraordinary lecturer at the University of Pretoria. He is the current President of the Aeronautical Society of South Africa.



Marié Botha graduated top of her class, completing her business commerce degree in logistics management at the University of Stellenbosch, and a Master’s degree in commerce from the same university. Her main focus was on Logistics-and Supply Chain Management. She started her career at the CSIR as a researcher in the field of logistics and quantitative methods. Marié furthered her career in the domains of supply chain management, lean manufacturing and the aerospace industry.  She is the manager of the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative (AISI), acts as the Key Account Manager for the CSIR Aerospace and manages the DSTs composites initiatives.

She is a council member of the Aeronautical Society of South Africa, and a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.


Liza Barnard is the Group Secretary for CSIR's Air Power Applications Research Group.
